What Shed Size Should You Buy?

There are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing a garden shed, and one of them is the size. We’ve pulled together a list of the most common sizes available in the UK market to give you a starting point. Plus, we’ll share a few options from our BillyOh collection.

Common Shed Sizes

Sheds come in all sorts of sizes to suit small, medium, and large gardens. This list starts with the smallest and goes up to the biggest. Take note, though, that not every size will be included, but it should give you a good idea of what’s available.

6×3 ft and 6×4 ft

A 6x3ft shed means the garden building is 6 feet long and 3 feet wide. Its compact size is perfect for smaller spaces where you don’t need a lot of storage. You can store things like tools, garden equipment, or even your kid’s bike. It’ll fit nicely in narrower spots along the edge of your garden as long as the space allows for those dimensions.

A 6x4ft shed is slightly bigger, giving you a bit more room, so you can store a few extra items, like folding garden furniture or a small lawnmower.

Globel Pent Metal Shed

For reference, the Globel Pent Metal Shed comes in these two sizes. It’s designed with a glide and track door layout, which helps save space and makes it easier to open in tight spots. It might seem like a small detail, but it makes a difference when you’re working with limited space.

Both sizes are quite versatile, but it could be worth opting for the 6x4ft shed, especially if your garden has the space for it.

6×6 ft

A 6x6ft shed is a fair-sized option if you want something larger than the first two sizes, but not too big. With its square shape, it offers enough room for a variety of items that wouldn’t fit in a smaller shed. Just be careful not to overcrowd the space.

Sapphire Apex Metal Shed

Take this Sapphire Apex Metal Shed unit, for instance. It’s still compact enough to tuck into a corner of your garden, but with the bonus of extra room for organising or storing a wider range of things. The sliding door design saves space, which frees up room for extra floor storage for more equipment.

8×6 ft

An 8x6ft shed is around 2.4m by 1.8m in meters. Sheds of this size are usually the in-between option for those stuck between a small or larger shed. They fit in medium-sized outdoor spaces without taking up too much square footage, plus they offer a good balance of space for storage or light activities.

BillyOh Defender Heavy Duty Tongue and Groove Pent Shed

A great example is the BillyOh Defender Heavy Duty Tongue and Groove Pent Shed. It offers a bespoke storage solution with a huge range of sizes, and the 8×6 is one of our customers’ top choices! True to its name, this wooden shed is built with a thickened shell of 15mm tongue and groove cladding that outlasts models with standard timber panels.

With a 6’3” eaves height and double doors, this 8×6 shed feels more spacious and open. Pressure-treatment also comes as standard with a 15-year BillyOh guarantee for long-lasting resilience.

8×8 ft

There’s not much of a difference between this shed size and the 8x6ft, except for its 8-foot width. It offers generous space while still being compact enough to fit in a medium or larger garden. It’s ideal if you’re looking to maximise your storage than an 8x6ft unit can offer.

BillyOh Keeper Overlap Apex Shed

Consider the BillyOh Keeper Overlap Apex Shed in this size. Its wide central double doors make it easy to access your belongings and move larger items like furniture with no trouble. Even better, the classic apex design provides ample headroom for added convenience.

10×6 ft and 10×8 ft

A 10x6ft shed is long and narrow, with 10 feet of length and 6 feet of width. Its extended length is great for storing ladders, garden tools, and lawnmowers, while the 6-foot width allows multiple items to be stored side by side.

A 10x8ft shed, in contrast, has a more spacious interior that’s perfect for organised storage or even as a small workshop. It can accommodate large garden furniture and/or multiple bikes while still leaving room to move around.

BillyOh Master Tongue and Groove Apex Shed

The BillyOh Master Tongue and Groove Apex Shed is available in these sizes, among others. Its apex roof provides extra headroom for easier movement inside, and the included floor bearers add sturdy support, making it ideal for heavy-duty items.

12×8 ft and 12×10 ft

BillyOh Expert Tongue and Groove Apex Workshop with Dual Entrance

These shed sizes are where larger storage options start. These structures are made for larger gardens where storage space is a priority. With their generous dimensions, they’re versatile enough for storing seasonal items, garden machinery, or even serving as workspaces for DIY projects. Some, like the BillyOh Expert Tongue and Groove Apex Workshop with Dual Entrance, even feature dual entrances.

Your options don’t end here. Manufacturers like us offer a wide range of sizes for many of our garden buildings. The BillyOh Expert, for example, also comes in larger sizes, including 16×10 and 20×20. If you browse through our selections, you can check out the available sizes along with their corresponding prices. Customisations are also available, so don’t miss out!

This applies not only to sheds, but also to our log cabins, summer houses, workshops, garden offices, and more.
